Crònica d'un Sant Jordi
Sant Jordi a Barcelona. Roses i llibres. Dissabte a la tarda i bon temps al carrer. Tot de factors que fan venir ganes de sortir al carrer a donar un volt. Això és el que segurament van pensar molts barcelonins el passat 23 d’abril. Però potser massa gent va pensar-ho, ja que el Passeig de Gràcia estava ple, la Plaça Catalunya col·lapsada i Les Rambles impracticables. El centre de la ciutat, a més, semblava estar tematitzat. Les roses semblaven estar totes concertades al Passeig de Gràcia, mentre que les paradetes de llibres estaven embotides al llarg de Les Rambles.
Com sempre, hi havia parades de roses de tot tipus, des de les més sofisticades (anomenades últimament de disseny, o fashion, o deconstruïdes), sota una carpa amb la senyera penjada, amb roses de disseny perfectament col·locades i música de fons, fins a les fetes de la forma més rudimentària. Les roses estaven posades de qualsevol manera dins de galledes de fregar, a sobre de taules brutes i plenes d’aigua. En alguns casos, la gent els hi comprava roses més aviat per solidaritat, com era el cas dels estudiants de farmàcia de la UB. Igualment destacable és el cas dels gitanos que venien les roses, com ho fan amb la roba als mercats. Crits com “Tengo rosas a dos euros, mira que rosas guapa” o també “Pero que rosas, pero que rosas tengo” se sentien constantment a les seves parades.
Però si el Passeig ja estava ple, la població per metre quadrat anava augmentant vertiginosament a mesura que s’acostava la Plaça Catalunya. Aquesta estava plena a vessar, ja que si normalment ja ho està; turistes i gent que surt per la tarda el dissabte, només faltaven les paradetes de la diada. Però el pitjor estava per arribar, a l’entrada de les Rambles, a Canaletes, l’esperit alegre de la festa havia desaparegut per complert. Tot eren empentes i ma humor. Però pel que sembla, aquest ambient encara afectava més als membres de la tercera edat; un grupet de dones es dedicava a anar insultant a tothom que anés en contra de la seva direcció. Xisclant coses com: “Aneu al revés del món, desgraciats”, anaven donant cops de colze per poder arribar abans a les parades i fer fora als que hi estaven mirant. En fi.
Les Rambles, sempre pintoresques, semblava que tinguessin assignades les parades de llibres. Malgrat que l’ambient era irrespirable a la part alta, a l’alçada del Liceu, la situació ja era més distesa. Tot el carrer estava ple de paradetes, banda i banda estava ple d’estants de llibreries, encara que també n’hi havia que aprofitaven el taulell per vendre també algunes roses. Hi havia molts colors, dominaven especialment els tons càlids, que en contrast amb el verd dels arbres, i juntament amb el bon temps, feien de Les Rambles (de la part no col·lapsada) un lloc molt agradable per passejar. Es veia a la cara de la gent que gaudien del moment, cares que contrastaven amb les de metres més amunt, on tot eren pomes agres.
Hi havia estants de lo més divers; parades de llibres alternatius; parades on els dependents eren uns nois amb una bandera espanyola amb l’Osborne bordada a la jaqueta, però amb una senyera ben grossa al taulell. La qüestió es vendre. Evidentment també hi havia l’estant de l’Enciclopèdia Catalana i els de diverses ordres religioses: evangelistes, testimonis de Geovà, catòlics. D’aquests últims destaquen la immensitat de llibres dedicats al seu antic líder, el difunt Joan Pau II, i també d’en Benet XVI, qui va ser el seu braç dret, i mai més ben dit. Però de llibres n’hi havia piles i piles, però sobretot destacaven les novetats de la temporada; els llibres de moda i els premis. Que són els que sobretot demanaven els barcelonins. Fet que es va veure després en les llistes els més venuts. 'El gran engany', de Dan Brown, i les obres de Rosales, Alzamora i Baulenas es van imposar en català i 'La velocidad de la luz' i 'La sombra del viento' d’en Zafón, van ser els llibres més venuts en castellà. “Jo no sé gaire de llibres, però m’agrada llegir. I quan demano consell als llibreters em recomanen els llibres amb premi ”, va afirmar la Neus, quan se li preguntava en què es guiava a l’hora de tirar els llibres.
Però el bullici no es limitava als carrers. Els passadissos del FNAC, l’autoanomenat temple de la cultura, semblaven els corredors de qualsevol hipermercat. La gent nerviosa, es mirava els llibres a gran velocitat i els van apilant juntament amb diversos DVD i discos. Alguns, com en Lluís, porta fins a 10 productes. Però confessa que alguns dels llibres se’ls deixa per l’any següent, i que gairebé mai llegeix tot el que ha comprat. I per què els compra doncs? Perquè és Sant Jordi respon ell. Sant Jordi a Barcelona ha tornat a ser un formiguer. Un formiguer on les formigues afamades que carreguen menjar per tot l’hivern són individus – sempre hi ha excepcions - afamats que carreguen i carreguen cultura per tota la temporada. Si després la consumeixen tota o continuen invertint en llibres al resta de l’any és una incògnita. Però en Lluís recorda: “Sant Jordi és una festa creada pels botiguers, així que no sé per què la gent s’estranya tant”.
